wevonium.com: the little blog with the funny name

I usually don’t dabble in politics on this blog, but… I was watching some of the non stop CNN coverage last night and I was struck by what has become something of a theme amongst the never ending slew of talking heads these news shows roll out as ‘experts’ to analyze political races. The topic being discussed was how if Obama were to win the nomination, Clinton supporters would somehow vote for McCain out of protest. I find the notion laughable for a number of reasons, but watching Obama give his Iowa speech I realized that this was the first time in a long time I felt that this country could actually be ready for REAL and MEANINGFUL change. To me, the real disaster of the Bush administration is not the war, the deconstruction of the Constitution, the economic filings or any other headline du jour, but rather the extinguishing of the flame of the idea that is America. This government used to be an instrument for good, a hope for the world. But now? I’m not so sure. How can you watch Obama speak and not like him? I’m talking to you Clinton supporters. I realize you’d rather have Ms. Clinton, but could you really vote McCain after hearing this?
